Generative AI Policy

Research Ethics & AI Policy

Authorship and AI Accountability

The EPH International Journal of Medical and Health Science (IJMHS) maintains stringent ethical protocols regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific writing. While we recognize the evolution of digital tools, the core of scholarly research must remain an authentic human endeavor.

1. Ethical Standards for AI

In accordance with international editorial guidelines, IJMHS enforces the following mandates regarding AI-assisted technologies:

  • • Non-Authorship Status: Generative AI tools (including ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar models) do not qualify for authorship. AI lacks the legal standing and ethical agency required to accept responsibility for research findings.
  • • Ultimate Human Responsibility: Human authors are exclusively accountable for the manuscript's integrity. This includes ensuring data precision, validating all citations, and guaranteeing the work is free from plagiarism.

2. Permissible Usage & Thresholds

To preserve the originality of the researcher's contribution, the journal allows AI assistance only under the following strict conditions:

The 5% AI Content Limit:

  • Scope of Use: AI may only be used for language polishing, grammar correction, or structural organization.
  • Screening: Submissions exceeding a 5% AI similarity threshold will be returned to authors for revision or subject to immediate rejection.
  • Prohibitions: AI must not be used to create primary research data, clinical arguments, or conclusive figures. AI-generated imagery is strictly forbidden unless it is the direct subject of the study.

3. Disclosure Requirements

Transparency is a cornerstone of our editorial policy. Any use of AI, even within the allowed 5% limit, must be formally disclosed.

Authors must include a "Statement on Generative AI Use" preceding the reference list, identifying the specific tools and the manuscript sections they assisted.

4. Verification Duty

Authors are required to confirm that all AI-refined content has been manually verified for accuracy and technical relevance.

This verification ensures that AI "hallucinations" or incorrect medical citations do not compromise the scholarly record.

Accountability Summary

The EPH International Journal of Medical and Health Science stands by the principle that scientific progress is a human achievement. By adhering to these AI guidelines, authors ensure that their work remains a credible and trustworthy contribution to the medical community.
